bisect
Abstract
Returns the fractional index of a value within a sorted array / tab
Description
Given an array x0, x1, x2, x3,...
, bisect
determines the fractional index of a
value x, indicating where this value would be placed within the given array/table.
For example, given an array [0, 10, 14, 20]
, the value 12 would
receive the index 1.5 since it is to be placed between elements 1 and 2,
equidistant from both (the fractional part determines the relative distance
to the neighbouring elements). The index is clamped to 0 and size-1
.
Note
bisect
can be used together with interp1d
to perform piecewise interpolation.
Given an array of x values and an array of corrsponding y values, bisect
determines
the index within the x array and interp1d
maps that index to the y domain via multiple
interpolation methods

Arguments
- kval: the value to quiery within arr
- arr: the array (1D) holding the data.
- tab: the table holding the data
- step: in the case of a table, it is possible to bisect one particular column in the table if, for each row, multiple features are included in the same table
- offset: the offset determines the precise column to bisect

- out: the index of val inside the array/tab
